Receiving

Francis of Assisi's first quote

the inspiration

[...] "For it is in giving that we receive." [...]

This quote is a well known one I think. In this quote we can read all ideas and believes of Francis of Assisi. He was a man of giving and he never asked for something, he was always glad with the little things which were given to him by good people, by nature and by God.

I think that we are receiving the same as we give. As we give love, we will receive love. If we give a wonderful haiku to someone, he/she will grant us with gratefulness ... Life is all about giving and be gratefull for that we will receive.

she grants me a smile
and whispers "thank you for caring"-

Receiving

The women and young girls sought safety from abuse in a community supported safe house.  In an outreach our faith community did several projects over the years in support of the safe house.  On one particular mission outreach workday there was a need for a place for the women to be outside the safe house while painting was done.  At a nearby church a play day for the children with games, stories, movies and bounce houses was organized.  For the mothers and young women I helped organize a spiritual spa.  Touchless massage was performed as many of these abused ladies could not trust touch as yet.  My job was the paraffin hand treatments.  Hands were washed and dried then I applied olive oil to each set of hands.  I told each person this was to signify for them that there are always people who love them.  If they said they were persons of faith, a reminder that the Creator was always with them was said.  Then hands were dipped in the warm wax, placed in plastic bags and wrapped in mitts to keep in the warmth of the wax treatment.  The women were seated on sofas and comfortable chairs in a softly lit room.  There they were given soaking foot baths with scented salts followed by lotion smoothed onto the feet.  With over 60 women served in 3 hours, we few ladies left that day tired but so blessed by having given.

those eyes full of pain
gentle voice gentle touch soothe
lightened burdens

lightened burdens
give rise to hope beginning
shoulders share the load

shoulders share the load
touched persons part at sunset
joyful hearts sing praise

joyful hearts sing praise
Creator joins in the song
love sounds fill the air
