June 18, 2019

Hmmm.  On this day in 1955 my oldest sister was married.  That marriage lasted for over 27 years.  My Mom never forgave her for leaving BIL #1.  Mom did not have to live day in and day out with an alcoholic.  BIL #1 was a really sweet guy to the rest of the world.  Just not always to Sis.  My Sis chose not to live with that.  In 1999 that man passed from complications of his disease.  In 2015 their first born son died from complications of the same disease.

But on that night 64 years ago the future looked bright for these two beautiful young people.

The wedding party.  I am the first little girl on the far left, Sis # 2 is next.  Reba Jane is next small girl.  Lynda is next.
Lynda and Reba Jane are cousins and were in my wedding, too.

10-24-2018 Really, nothing

Oh, my goodness.  You probably think I am dead or have been sick.  None of the above though I am still dealing with all those pesky tendon issues.  Nope, just have not had much to say.  That may not be the complete truth cause I have been muttering to myself quite a lot these days.  I am just so tired of the constant edge of disaster news, emails and tweets.  I did a little door to door leaving info about one of my preferred candidates.  I have voted so there is little else I can do.  Now let us move on to what the fun things are I have been doing over the last say 6 weeks.

The September trip to Sisters, Oregon for a great niece's wedding was really wonderful.   My three sisters, two of the husbands and I spent about 6 days traveling in Oregon.  Of course the wedding was the Big Event that included surprising the bride with her grandfather's presence.  He had some heart issues a few weeks before the wedding so the doctors initially said he could not travel.  Eventually the tests showed he had improved enough to share the day.  Here are a few snaps from the moment of her arrival for group photos and her surprise.

My sister, Suzie, nephew, Steve, BIL and surprise, Royce and the gasping bride.

Now you made me mess up my makeup, Papa.
Bride's sister, Sydney (also, my great niece) their step father and The Twins.

These two boys kept several of us occupied keeping them out of the ponds and streams that surrounded the patio!

Prior to the wedding there was time for #4 Sis, her hubby and I to do a little tour of the Sisters area of Oregon.  The older folks stayed at the house to rest from the previous day's travels.  We went looking for a big dam that was supposed to be nearby cause my BIL loves dams.  His business is about power distribution.  Any who the dam he found on the internet was not the one nearby.  The nearby one was just an earthen dam about 20 feet high.  Oops.  But around the corner, less than a mile we found this vineyard and winery!

Behind the main buildins was a fabulous garden.  Man made pond and trickling stream was the perfect place to sit and enjoy the beautiful afternoon.  Of course we each had to have a flight of wines to taste.  One must never drink on an empty tummy and it was 1:30 by this time!

Those two peaks in the distance are the Sisters volcanoes.

By the time we wandered around the garden one last time it was time to head back to primp for the wedding.  I'll share more with you tomorrow as there was lots to see during this special time with my sisters in Sisters, Oregon.

Sisters in order of birth, 1936, 1940, 1946 and 1954.  You do the math.

white blossoms

Carpe Diem #725, white blossoms

Gardenia blossoms have been one of my favorite flowers since I was a child.  On one of the few occasions I spent a few days with my Uncle Bud's family I slept next to an open window. Outside the window was a gardenia bush.  The scent that drifted through the window was at once sweet and fresh.  I was an immediate fan.  I was about 10 years old.

I have always been in love intrigued by weddings and wedding gowns.  I know, I may have to tear up my liberated woman card, but I do love weddings.  As a child I would put on lace curtains and pretend they were veils.  Then I would hum or sing the wedding march.
You know the version:  Here comes the bride, big, fat and wide.  Here comes the groom, skinny as a broom.  Why did I know that tune to the wedding march?  Older sisters, I would suspect.

Once I was a flower girl for a beautiful woman.  She left her gown and veil at my mom's home as Mom had hosted the reception at our house.  I played wedding using her veil for days.  A couple of years later my older sister used that wedding gown for her wedding.  I was a junior bridesmaid in that wedding.  I was eight.

My Toni doll had a wedding gown that Mom made one year as part of the Santa gifts.  I still have the veil.  There actually came a time in my life when I was the bride.  A very 60's style gown.  Not a lot of fru-fru cause I was still a bit of a tomboy.  The veil was not long but suited my personality.  My bouquet was made of fresh beautiful, saucer sized gardenias.  The dreams of a child.
